Librarians play a key role in providing a welcoming, professional and great library service. They collaborate with customers in the library and in the community making it easy for people to access and use the various library resources that are available to them. Librarians have community at their heart and consistently provide excellent customer service to ensure all customers receive an unforgettable experience.
The Librarian Programme and Events role is currently worked at Birkenhead Library. This library is a busy and vibrant library with a strong community focus, offering an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. In this exciting role with variety and challenge, you will be leading the development, promotion and delivery of community-focused programmes and events designed to engage the public within the Kaipātiki Local Board.
Our libraries are open 7 days a week so flexibility around working hours including a weekend day is required.

We are looking for someone who can:
- Use library processes & systems and technology with confidence
- Set the standard for promotions, including posters, networking, and social media
- Build and maintain community connections
- Enable and oversee the co-design, co-ordination, and delivery of programmes, events, and services within the library
- Has a collaborative and flexible approach, and is willing and open to continuous learning
- Exhibit excellent communication and customer service skills
- Balance multiple tasks and priorities
- Confidently use social media platforms to engage with the community.
The role will form part of the leadership team in the library’s day-to-day operations and support for team members.
