About the mahi
As a Health Care Assistant, you will be part of the inpatient unit nursing team at Harbour Hospice. You will be guided by Registered Nurses to provide care to patients. Your duties will include:
- Assisting with showers and other personal cares
- Helping patients to eat
- Making beds and managing linen
- Sitting with patients for comfort and support
- General tidying of the unit
This role is for casual hours to provide cover for staff leave. You may be asked to cover any shift, morning, afternoon and evening, and also weekends, so flexibility is a must. Shifts might be at either of our in-patient units in Takapuna and Red Beach. Preference will be given to those who are able to travel to both.
Please note: only applicants who hold NZ citizenship, permanent residency or a valid work visa will be considered.
About you | Mōhou ake
As someone with recent Health Care Assistant experience, either in a New Zealand hospital or aged care setting, you understand that it’s the little things that make all the difference to patients, whānau and families. You will bring to this role:
- A caring nature with a positive and mature attitude
- Attention to detail
- The ability to prioritise your workload
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to your work
- A genuine interest in palliative care
You must also have a level of fitness to be able to meet the physical demands of the role.

Harbour Hospice is one of the largest hospices in Aotearoa and has been caring for tūroro (patients) and their family and whānau for almost 40 years. Every day we care for close to 400 people across the North Shore, Hibiscus Coast and Warkworth/Wellsford regions, supporting them at home, in one of our two inpatient units, or in community programmes offered at each of our three sites.
